Mayor Madden Statement on Governor Cuomo’s College Tuition Proposal

TROY, NYMayor Patrick Madden has issued the following statement regarding Governor Andrew Cuomo’s 2017 proposal to provide free tuition for qualified New York students to attend SUNY and CUNY colleges:

“Lack of access to affordable college has long been a barrier to those seeking a path to stable employment and improved quality of life. Governor Cuomo’s proposal to make college affordable for all will help build an educated workforce, making them more attractive to employers and businesses which positively impacts communities like Troy. The cost of education should not prevent students from pursuing their dreams of going to college and crushing student loans should not burden them for decades after they’ve earned their degrees. By striving to make an education at SUNY or CUNY tuition-free for thousands of New Yorkers, Governor Cuomo is widening and paving this path to success for future generations.”
