Earth Day

Zoomed in photo of green grass. The City logo is visible, with the text Earth Day Citywide Cleanup.
Earth Day is an annual event held to demonstrate public support for environmental protection and preservation. First launched in the United States in 1970, Earth Day is now celebrated worldwide with more than 193 countries participating.

Each year, the City of Troy sponsors an citywide cleanup event coinciding with Earth Day. This community event brings together residents, families, and business owners to improve community parks, green spaces and neighborhoods across the city.

This year, the City of Troy is partnering with the Lansingburgh Central School District for a special bag decorating program. Paper bags provided by Hannaford Supermarket will be decorated by students from three schools (Rensselaer Park Elementary, Turnpike Elementary and Knickerbacker Middle School) for distribution to customers at Hannaford’s Lansingburgh neighborhood location (9 126th Street, Troy).

For more information on Troy’s annual Earth Day cleanup, or to organize a cleanup project in your neighborhood, please contact Renee Panetta, City Recycling Coordinator, at (518) 279-7171 or [email protected]

Cleanup Project Schedule

Interested in getting involved in this year’s event? Join a local cleanup project in your neighborhood! Additional events will be added as they are received.

Please note: Residents interested in obtaining bags for their neighborhood Earth Day Cleanups are invited to stop at the Knickerbacker Ice Rink between the hours of 7:00 am – 3:00 pm, Tuesday through Friday before Earth Day weekend.
