The Troy Kennel Club has its beginnings as far back as 1916 when some Troy dog breeders formed a club and began having annual fall matches. By the 1920’s, these were held in old St. Mary’s Hall on Third Street. The first AKC-sanctioned match was held on June 17, 1933. It was held in connection with the Troy Horse Show at the Riding Club grounds off Brunswick Road. Three years later, on May 12, 1936, the Club became an AKC member club under the name of the Troy Horse Show Association, Inc. In 1942, the Club dropped its association with the horse show and became known and registered with AKC as the Troy Kennel Club, Inc. It has continued under this name since 1942. Its AKC sanctioned shows are held annually in April and October. |
