TROY, NY – Mayor Patrick Madden today announced the official opening of the City of Troy’s Frear Park Golf Course for the 87th season. City officials and representatives of the Troy’s First Tee program kicked off the start of the 2018 season with a ceremonial first tee shot on Monday, April 23.

“The Frear Park Golf Course remains one of the Capital Region’s most popular destinations for golfers of all ages, skills and ability levels,” said Mayor Patrick Madden. “With recent upgrades and improvements to the course, we are confident the 2018 season will continue to provide a high-quality experience for first-time and returning players alike.”

Weather permitting, Frear Park’s front nine will open 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 23, with the full course expected to open later in the week. Season passes are available for purchase at the Frear Park Pro Shop in a variety of options, with discounted rates available for Troy residents with purchase of a Resident Recreational ID Card. Cards can be purchased at the Pro Shop for $25.00 with proof of residency (a state-issued driver’s license, copy of a cable or telephone bill will be accepted). Issued resident ID cards will be subject to annual renewal.

Located within the historic Frear Park, the City’s Frear Park Golf Course is one of the crown jewels of the community’s recreational facilities. Frear Park was originally designed as a nine-hole course, with construction completed in 1931. The course was expanded to 18 holes in 1964 and was designed by Robert Trent Jones, one of the game’s greatest course architects. It remains one of the Capital Region’s most popular golf destinations, and is enjoyed by thousands of players each year. The course remains a great attraction for local golfers, with twenty-seven established leagues and over 46,000 rounds of golf played annually.
