TROY, NY – Mayor Patrick Madden today announced the city of Troy will partner with the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Capital Area (BGCCA) to offer swimming opportunities during nights and weekends this summer. Beginning Tuesday, July 2nd, the community will have access to the indoor swimming pool located at BGCCA’s Troy Clubhouse (1700 7th Avenue) on Monday through Friday, from 6:00 – 8:00pm, and Saturday and Sunday, from 1:00pm – 6:00pm. Access to the pool will be through the 6th Avenue Parking Lot entrance.

Mayor Madden said, “We’re excited to again partner with the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Capital Area to give residents, families, and children a place to enjoy summertime activities. This wonderful opportunity offers valuable opportunities to the public while renovations and repairs continue at the South Troy pool which is slated to reopen later this summer.”

Patrick Doyle, Boys and Girls Clubs of the Capital Area’s Chief Operations Officer, said, “Creating positive experiences for youth in our community is at the core of the Club’s mission to help young people grow and succeed. We’re pleased to work with the city of Troy to offer community access to the Troy Clubhouse this summer, part of our commitment to create safe places for kids to stay active in a safe environment.”

Community swim hours at the BGCCA will continue until repairs to the South Troy swimming pool are complete. Community swimming will not be available on Thursday, July 4th, in observation of the Independence Day holiday. Additionally, BGCCA has partnered with the city of Troy to operate the South Troy swimming pool this summer. The South Troy pool will reopen following a comprehensive overhaul of the south end recreational facility.

Necessary preparations are underway to ensure the pool can be reopened following completion of repairs. Required permits have been filed with the Rensselaer County Department of Health. The city is also working with CDTA to offer discounted bus passes to assist with transporting families from other neighborhoods. Additional information will be announced shortly.
