Mayor Madden: City Activating Neighborhood Cooling Stations in Response to Heat Advisory

Mayor Madden: City Activating Neighborhood Cooling Stations in Response to Heat Advisory

TROY, NY – In response to elevated temperatures expected across the Capital Region this week, Mayor Madden today announced the City of Troy will activate cooling stations in four neighborhood locations on Tuesday and Wednesday. Residents can visit four cooling stations established by the Troy Fire Department (weather permitting) on Tuesday, August 28, and Wednesday, August 29, from 12:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., at the following locations:

Lansingburgh
120th Street Park
(120th Street and 1st Ave.)

Little Italy
Little Italy Market Place
(5th Avenue, Liberty and Hill Streets)

North Central
7th Ave Park
(Ingalls Avenue and 7th Ave.)

South Troy
Canal Street Park
(3rd Street and Canal Ave.)

Additionally, splash pads are open to the public at various city parks, including: Frear Park, Prospect Park, Knickerbacker Park and Riverfront Park. The Troy Housing Authority will allow residents to access to their six Splash Pad Play Areas located at Phelan Court, Fallon Apartments, Griswold Heights, Martin Luther King Apartments, the Taylor Apartments and Corliss Park.

Mayor Madden said “It is important for residents to take precautions to stay safe during this week’s warm and humid weather. Please limit your outdoor activities, seek air-conditioned spaces, and drink plenty of water to keep hydrated during the warmest times of the day. Remember to check on your neighbors, relatives, and those who may be most vulnerable during periods of elevated temperatures.”

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for the City of Troy and the greater Capital District for Tuesday, August 28, and Wednesday, August 29, from 11:00am until 8:00pm.
