Mayor Madden Issues Proclamation for Small Business Saturday

Mayor Madden Issues Proclamation Declaring Small Business Saturday in Troy

TROY, NY – Mayor Patrick Madden issued a proclamation declaring Saturday, November 28th, 2020 as “Small Business Saturday” in the City of Troy, New York. The proclamation highlights the importance that shopping small has on the local economy, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mayor Madden urges all Trojans to support Troy’s countless small businesses, restaurants, shops, breweries, and merchants on Small Business Saturday and throughout the year.

Full text of the proclamation is below:

WHEREAS, the City of Troy, New York recognizes the importance of local small businesses and the important contributions they make to our local economy and community; and

WHEREAS, according to the United States Small Business Administration, there are 31.7 million small businesses in the United States which employ 47.1% of the employees in the private sector; and

WHEREAS, 62% of U.S. small businesses reported that they need to see consumer spending return to pre-COVID levels by the end of 2020 in order to stay in business, 65% of U.S. small business owners said it would be most helpful to their business to have their “regulars” return and start making purchases again, and three-quarters of U.S. consumers are currently looking for ways to shop small and support their community; and

WHEREAS, small businesses are critically important to the overall economic health of the United States, highlighting the impact of supporting local small businesses in communities like Troy; and

WHEREAS, the City of Troy, New York supports our local businesses that create jobs, boost our local economy and contribute to the vibrancy of our neighborhoods, and we remain committed to providing entrepreneurs and small business owners the support they need to thrive and grow, especially during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic; and

WHEREAS, advocacy groups, local governments along with public and private organizations including the Rensselaer County Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown Troy Business Improvement District have endorsed the Saturday after Thanksgiving as Small Business Saturday.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT, I, Patrick Madden, Mayor of the City of Troy, New York, do hereby proclaim Saturday, November 28, 2020 as

Small Business Saturday

and urge all Trojans to support small businesses, restaurants, shops, breweries, and merchants on Small Business Saturday and throughout the year.
