Mayor Patrick Madden Statement on the Passing of John Hedley

TROY, NYMayor Patrick Madden has issued the following statement regarding the passing of businessman, developer and Troy icon John Hedley:

“If the roots of Troy’s renaissance can be traced back to one individual, it was John Hedley. He not only believed in the potential of Troy, he invested in it. He was our City’s greatest cheerleader and the risk he took in acquiring and renovating 433 River Street was the catalyst that brought so many others to follow him. His commitment to revitalizing Troy’s waterfront and downtown served as a beacon to guide our city toward the promise of a brighter future. John was a great visionary and a great humanitarian, and his generosity to countless community-based organizations, especially those who served youth, demonstrated his deep affection for our city. He altered the course for our history in a meaningful and positive way. His humor, infectious smile and generosity will be greatly missed, and our thoughts are with the entire Hedley family during this difficult time.”
