TROY, NY – On Monday, April 23, the City of Troy will shake off the winter cold and break out the clubs for opening day at Frear Park Municipal Golf Course. Mayor Patrick Madden will be joined by City Parks & Recreation staff and organizers of Troy’s First Tee program for the ceremonial first tee shot to officially open the 87th season. With assistance from local funders and in partnership with regional service providers the City of Troy will revive the First Tee program – which provides young people educational programs through the game of golf – for the 2018 summer season.

WHY: Located within Troy’s historic Frear Park, the City’s Frear Park Golf Course is one of the crown jewels of the community’s recreational facilities. Frear Park was originally designed as a nine-hole course, with construction completed in 1931. The course was expanded to 18 holes in 1964 and was designed by Robert Trent Jones, one of the game’s greatest course architects. It remains one of the Capital Region’s most popular golf destinations, and is enjoyed by thousands of players each year. The course remains a great attraction for local golfers, with twenty-seven established leagues and over 46,000 rounds of golf played annually.
