Children attend
the Rensselaer Park Elementary School, Knickerbacker
Middle School and Knickerbacker High School. A medical
building with doctors’ offices and the Lansingburgh
Day Care is located at 102nd Street and Fifth Avenue.
The AME Zion church is located on the corner of 103rd
Street and Fifth Avenue. There are several convenient
stores, a hair salon, flower shop, apparel shop, dog
grooming shop and a foreign car repair shop within
walking distance. In addition, Ross Valve recently
moved from Oakwood Avenue in Troy to 102nd
Street and Eighth Avenue.
There are many examples of fine architecture, ranging
from Victorian to cottages and ranches. There are also
multi-family homes for those who would like to start
homeownership with help from a tenant or for families
who want to share a home with close relatives.
Public transportation is excellent. For those who
commute to work and would like to leave their car at
home, CDTA buses regularly run along Second Avenue
and Fifth Avenue to downtown Troy where connections
can be made to Albany, Latham and Colonie. Buses also
run from Lansingburgh to Watervliet, Cohoes and several
areas in Rensselaer County.
The jewel of South Lansingburgh is Knickerbacker Park.
The park begins at 103rd Street and 8th Avenue. It
is a beautiful park with a children’s playground,
a year-round indoor ice rink and an outdoor track where
residents can walk, jog or in-line skate. The park
also includes tennis courts, baseball, football, soccer
fields and an outdoor swimming pool. The citywide bike
path runs along a ridge above the park and is accessible
from the park. Residents also enjoy the beautiful view
of the Hudson River from Second Avenue between 103rd
and 105th Street. One can enjoy the sunset and watch
boats cruising on the river. In addition, the Sixth
and Seventh Avenue boulevards add to the beauty of
the area.
South Lansingburgh is a hidden treasure.
