View From Here
(Troy Record, November 19, 2003) - The Arts Center
City Hall gallery on the second floor of Troy's City
Hall opened Tuesday in collaboration with The Arts Center
of the Capital Region, showcasing the work of local resident
and professor Jim Flosdorf.

Releases Audit for Fiscal Year 2002
The City of Troy today released the final Audit for
the fiscal year 2002. The General Purpose Financial Statements
and single Audit was completed by the City’s independent
auditor, Bollam, Sheedy and Torani & Co.

- Troy Scores High Marks in November Hudson Valley
Magazine
Troy was recently featured
prominently in Hudson Valley magazine’s November
issue. In their feature story, “The Best
of the Valley,” five Troy destinations were
highlighted. In the Shopping category, Workshop
405, located in the Marina district, received best “Soho-style
boutique.” Also in the Shopping category,
Dana Rudolph and Company, located on River Street,
was voted best “place to make a necklace.”

- Troy Gets $180,000 Brownfields Grant
(Times Union, November 6, 2003) - A$180,000 state
grant will be used to study the cleanup of a former industrial
site in South Troy. The money will be used to take samples
of soil and groundwater contamination at the 19-acre
site on East Industrial Road near the Rensselaer County
Jail.

- Getting The Brown Out
(Troy Record, November 11, 2003) - Lt. Gov. Mary
Donohue Wednesday announced that a $180,000 state grant
will fund an investigation into environmental contamination
at the South Troy Industrial Park. The 19-acre parcel
was used for more than a century to manufacture commercial-grade
iron and steel and has been unused for 30 years.

- Back To The Future
(Troy Record, October 29, 2003) - On a warm autumn
afternoon, Rocco DeFazio gazed across an empty, paved
lot and described the bright future for the section of
the city now officially known as Little Italy. Along
with elected officials, leaders and neighbors, DeFazio
on Tuesday unveiled plans for the Little Italy Marketplace,
a section of property between Liberty and Washington
streets that will serve as centerpiece of the Italian
revolution in Troy, just as it did 100 years ago.

- Volunteers Hit The Streets - Halls, Hospitals
(Troy Record, October 26, 2003) - In Troy, the cement
planters along Broadway, where summer plants were limp
and brown with cold, now host cheery little spruce trees
topped with red gauzy ribbons and a white tag that reads "Donated
and Planted by the Junior League of Troy, NY, Women Building
Better Communities." The 10 Junior Leaguers that
spent Saturday morning planting those trees were a fraction
of the 3 million volunteers across the country, who put
their shoulders to the wheel for Make A Difference Day.

- Plenty Now Riding On The Waterfront
(Troy Record, October 24, 2003) - Looking to transform
the Troy waterfront into a major tourism and educational
centerpiece, state Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno
announced Thursday that $500,000 has been secured to
jumpstart the ambitious project.

Grand Vision For Waterfront Unfurled
(Times Union, October 24, 2003) - On the shores of
the Hudson River, replicas of famous ships will sit in
a new harbor beside a hotel, conference center and aquariums
filled with fish native to the Capital Region. This is
the vision of developers behind a $470 million project
estimated to create 650 jobs, attract 1.3 million visitors
a year and generate a $48 million economic impact.

(Times Union, October 21, 2003) - Developers Sandy
Horowitz and John Hedley are renovating 10 downtown buildings
between them, and they took time Wednesday to discuss
their shared vision with local leaders.

charter schools in New York state were announced this
week, and one is looking to call Troy home next fall.

Dishes Up Help for City Park
(Times Union, October 16, 2003) - The Friends of
Barker Park will hold its second annual Tastes of Troy
Gala from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, at Revolution
Hall, 425 River St. John J. Hedley is the honorary chairman
for the event, and John Gray of WNYT Ch. 13 will be master
of ceremonies.

- Troy Cops Step Up Efforts
(Times Union, October 9, 2003) - City police made
145 arrests during a two-week crackdown on everything
from drug dealing to underage drinking, from errant drivers
to people who park on the wrong side of the road.
