On-Street Parking Hours

On-street parking is limited to two hours between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. within the Central Business District.

To request a monthly or daily parking permit you may contact the City Treasurer's Office at (518) 279-7117. If there are no vacancies, you will be put on a waiting list.

Parking Violations

NYS V&T 1202.2(b) - No person shall park a vehicle in any of the following places: On a sidewalk or within 20 feet of a crosswalk at an intersection, unless a different distance is indicated officially.

NYS V&T 1202.3(b) - Blocking the entrance or exit of a driveway, public or private Within 15 feet of a fire hydrant.

—At any place that is posted by official signs prohibiting stopping, standing or parking on any ground, lawn or vegetated areas, public or privately owned.

—Commercial type vehicles such as house coaches, semitrailers, dump trucks, construction equipment, cranes, moving vans, delivery trucks with six or more tires, boats, boat trailers and other large commercial means of transport are prohibited from parking on city streets on a permanent or semi-permanent basis

—Street cleaning restrictions vary by section of the city. Contact DPW for your scheduled cleaning. (518) 270-4579

—Except where angle parking is authorized, every vehicle stopped, standing or parked on a two-way street shall have its right hand wheels parallel to and within 12" of the right hand curb or edge of the roadway.

All vehicles parked in violation of the above shall be ticketed; in addition, vehicles parked in violation of fire hydrant regulations shall be towed by the police at the owner's expense.

PROTEST Parking Ticket

As of July 2009 parking ticket protestors will no longer be able to protest a ticket in person. Protestors must now mail in or drop off a signed and notarized affidavit to the Treasurer’s Office. The affidavit must be received by the Treasurer's Office within 14 days of the ticket's issuance date.

Effective July 6, 2009, the following procedures MUST be adhered to when protesting a parking ticket (pleading not guilty). Failure to follow these specific instructions will result in the plea request being denied.

(1) Protests of parking tickets can only be made in writing through a sworn affadavit and within 14 days of receipt of the ticket (issuance date).

(2) To protest your parking ticket, you MUST submit a SIGNED and NOTARIZED affidavit. You may pickup an affidavit at the Treasurer’s Office in Troy City Hall or you may download the affidavit.

(3) Please forward the signed and notarized affidavit setting forth the explanation to support the plea, together with a copy of the issued ticket and a self addressed stamped envelope within 14 days of the ticket's issuance date. You may deliver it to the Treasurer's Office in Troy City Hall, or you mail it to:

(Mailed affidavits must be POST MARKED on or before 14 days of the ticket's issued date.)

(4) A written response regarding the disposition of the protested parking ticket will be mailed to you from the City of Troy Office of Corporation Counsel within 30 days of the City’s receipt of your affidavit and supporting documentation.


New Parking Space
Should you wish to pave or otherwise create a parking area, you must contact the Bureau of Code Enforcement at (518) 270-4584 for information and procedures.
