Oakwood
Cemetery Rezoning Proposal
The 50.1+/-
acres of real estate which are the subject of the proposal
have been owned by Oakwood Cemetery since 1904.
The land has always been vacant and is not needed for
burials. The most recent land use burial plan
shows that the current Cemetery has sufficient space
for burials for the next hundred plus years. This
property has been for sale (both formally or informally)
for nearly thirty (30) years.
This parcel
is the only land in the general vicinity zoned conservation.
Immediately to the south of this land are additional
burial lands of Oakwood Cemetery. Immediately
to the northeast is vacant land which was formerly the
City of Troy land fill. Immediately to the north
are the Highpointe residential community, an additional
residential development, and commercial and residential
developments are at the corner of Oakwood Avenue and
Northern Drive. Immediately to the west, along
Gurley Avenue are additional residential developments
in the hamlet of Lansingburgh proper. The subject
parcel, zoned for conservation, is near to and abuts
various development zoned areas.
