Troy Police Department Announce Training Scenario on Rensselaer Campus

TROY, NY – On Tuesday, May 1, the City of Troy Police Department in conjunction with Rensselaer (RPI), the Federal Bureau of Investigation, as well as numerous Capital District police agencies, State Police and sheriff’s departments, will be conducting an active shooter/emergency response drill on the RPI campus. The drill will test RPI’s Emergency Alert System. Local residents of Troy will hear broadcasts via RPI’s Public Address System. This is a drill and drill only.

Please see below notification from Rensselaer (RPI) regarding the planned active shooter training exercise scheduled for Tuesday, May 1:

“Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute will hold an active shooter exercise on Tuesday, May 1 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. The drill is designed to be realistic and during this time, access to some areas of the campus will be limited. Nearby residents and motorists may hear a loud siren and notice the presence of increased emergency vehicles.

“The safety of students, faculty and staff at Rensselaer is paramount, and this exercise is an important training opportunity for the campus. Public Safety at Rensselaer has planned and coordinated the exercise for several months in cooperation with area law enforcement agencies and emergency responders.

“Anyone with questions can call the Rensselaer Department of Public Safety at (518) 276-6656.”
