MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR
Welcome to the 63rd running of the Troy Turkey Trot!! Troy’s premier road running race and one of the oldest in the Capital Region will again take place this Thanksgiving November 25th. From its humble beginnings in 1916 with only six runners entered, the Troy Turkey Trot has grown into one of the largest road races in upstate New York. Approximately 6,000 are expected to take part in the five Turkey Trot events.
There are four race day events – the most popular are the 5k and 10k which are great for everyone, from the fitness enthusiast to the weekend warrior. If running and exercise are something that you want to do but are working up the motivation to start, the Open Walk is the perfect opportunity to tie on your sneakers and take a mile walk. There’s also the opportunity to reinforce the message of healthy activities for kids with the Grade School Mile for kids in 8th grade and younger.
Running isn’t the only way to participate. We can always use volunteers to help with various day-of-race activities. If you’re interested, please contact my office at 279-7130.
Once again this year, the Troy Turkey Trot race day operations will be located in the Troy Atrium. The large number of Trot participants and spectators will be able to begin their day there before heading outside to run or cheer on family and friends. Keep checking this page for updated information on the race course and packet pick up.
Large crowds are again anticipated for this year’s Trot so participants are encouraged to register for their event of choice early by clicking on the “Register Online” icon below. Online registration will close on Wednesday November 24th at 12 PM.
Whether you’re running or cheering, I encourage you to come and take part in one of the region’s oldest Thanksgiving traditions. Bring your family and friends, your running shoes or cheering voice to historic downtown Troy and take part in one of our premier annual events!
Happy Holidays and Enjoy Troy!

Do to the very high volume of runners trying to reach the race site from surrounding communities a space in the days’ schedule from 8:20 a.m. to 9:20 a.m. will be set aside to allow participants to arrive at the race venue. No events will be held during this one-hour time period to allow traffic to flow more smoothly into the city. The new event starting times are as follows:
7:45 a.m.………….. Turkey Walk
9:30 a.m.………….. Open 5K
10:30 a.m.………… Grade School 1 Mile
10:45 a.m.………… Open 10K
Traffic flow to race venue
A gap in the days’ schedule form 8:20 a.m. to 9:20 a.m. will be set aside to help improve traffic flow into the city and assist runners in reaching the race venue more easily. Runners participating in the 5K, 1Mile Grade School and 10K are encouraged to plan on traveling to the venue during this open gap in the event schedule.
There will be NO DAY OF RACE REGISTRATION
Many runner friendly changes have been made in recent years to make it easier for runners to register for the Trot including: mailing entries forms directly to runners, the ability to download entry forms, and direct on-line entry from one’s home computer. All these new ways to register for the trot has brought about the decision by race organizers to eliminate day of race registration. Registration will be available in person up to 12 Noon the day before Thanksgiving at Troy City Hall 1776 Sixth Avenue in downtown Troy. All participants are encouraged to register early. Online registration will close on Wednesday, November 25th at 12p.m. EST.
Disposable timing strip
The timing chip worn by runners for the last several years (that had to be returned at the completion of each race) will be replaced this year by a disposable timing strip that is attached between the tongue and laces of the running shoe.
Course Change
a. The starting line for all races will be moved one block north to 4th and Fulton Street to allow much more room for runners to line up for the start of each race.
b. 5K Course Changes - This year the 5K will again head north on River Street. The new turn around point will be on River Street at 101st Street. At the turn around runners will then proceed south on River Street to 5th Ave. All runners will continue south on 5th Ave. to Federal Street, turn right on Federal Street to River Street and then south on River Street to the Third Street Finish Line.
c. Grade School 1 Mile Changes- Due to the new starting line at Fulton and Fourth Street the turn around point for the 1 Mile Grade School race will be further north on River Street (just south of Hoosick Street intersection).
d. 10K Course Changes- The 10K course will be changed to two laps of the existing 5K course but will be run in the opposite direction. The 10K course will go north on 4th street to King Street. North on King Street to 5th Ave., north on 5th Ave. to River Street, north on River Street to the turn around point (located on River Street just south of 101st Street). Runners will return south on River Street to Fulton Street, east on Fulton Street to Fourth Street, then north on Fourth Street. Runners will repeat the same route listed above except on their return to Fulton Street runners will continue south onto Third Street to the Finish.

Clothe-A-Child
The Clothe-A-Child program services children ages 4-12 in receiving warm new clothing for winter. This includes coats, boots, mittens, hats, pants, shirts, underwear, and socks. The children are chosen from local elementary schools, social services, pre-schools, head start programs and churches. Volunteers from those organizations take the children shopping. Each child is allotted $100. tax free. 100 % of all donations received go towards clothing for children. The Record newspaper covers all program administration costs. On this Thanksgiving Day Holiday when we take time to give “thanks” for our family, our health, our friends and all the material blessings that we have we hope that you will remember those less fortunate and consider making a “Donation of Thanks” to this very worthwhile cause.
Donations can be made on your entry form or click her to donate now.
