Memorial Day Parade
May 26, 2008

Our 12th Annual Memorial Day Parade will be held on Monday, May 26th. The purpose of the parade and the Memorial Day Weekend activities is to take the time to honor the men and women who have served in the armed forces of the United States of America. The Lansingburgh Memorial Day Parade was restarted by the Veterans of Lansingburgh in 1996 after a 19 year absence. Previously, the parade was funded by the City of Troy, but was discontinued due to fiscal constraints. This Parade is funded by local veterans organizations and donations from government and the general public.

Parade Route

The parade will begin at 11:00 a.m., rain or shine. The parade route is from 123rd Street and 5th Avenue, South to 115th Street and 5th Avenue. Turn down 115th Street to 2nd Avenue. North on 2nd Avenue to 121st Street and 2nd Avenue. The Reviewing Stand will be located on the East Side of 2nd Avenue in front of Standard Manufacturing Company.

Graveside Ceremony

The Veterans of Lansingburgh will be hosting a Graveside Ceremony and a Flag Disposal Ceremony. The Graveside Ceremony will commence on Saturday, May 24th at 9:00 a.m. at Oakwood Cemetery near the flagpole at the crematorium. Once the wreath is laid, the procession will move to the Veterans plot in Oakwood and flags will be placed on the graves of the deceased veterans. After Oakwood, they will proceed to other monuments within Lansingburgh to place wreathes. The ceremony will conclude with a wreath laying ceremony on the Hudson River at the Veterans of Lansingburgh Club, located at 777 1st Avenue, whereby flowers will be tossed into the Hudson River in honor of each of the Armed Services.
