City Officials Announce 2019 Hydrant Flushing Schedule

Troy, NY –City officials today announced the annual hydrant flushing program will begin Monday, May 6th, 2019, and continue through Tuesday, May 14th.

Hydrant flushing is a controlled release of water from fire hydrants. The process is part of general maintenance of the city’s water distribution network. Flushing of hydrants helps clear iron & mineral deposits and other sediments from water mains to ensure adequate flow of water is available for public use, including firefighters, businesses, and residential homes.

Customers may experience temporary discoloration in their water and possible reduced water pressure during flushing operations. They are also advised to avoid washing clothes when flushing is taking place in their area. After hydrant flushing is complete in your area, customers can run the cold water tap until water runs clear. Water main and hydrant flushing will be completed during regular working hours (7:00 am – 3:30 pm) with the exception of the business district.
