City Officials Announce Swim Lesson Schedule for South Troy Pool

Swim lessons available beginning Monday, July 19th through Friday, August 13th, from 10:00 am – Noon

Parents or guardians can register children on-site at the pool during normal operating hours

South End Pool is open for public swimming daily from 1:00 pm – 6:00 pm

City partnering with Boys & Girls Clubs of the Capital Area to offer programming, free lunch at the pool site throughout the summer

TROY, NY – City officials announced details on swim lesson availability at the South Troy Swimming Pool for the 2021 season. Beginning Monday, July 19th, swim lessons will be held Monday through Friday, from 10:00 a.m. until 12 noon.

Registration is required for participants, and is limited to individuals between the ages of 4-15. Registration is available at the South Troy Pool during normal operating hours, or by calling (518) 270-5014.

The South Troy Swimming Pool– located on S Troy Pool Lane–is open daily to the public from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. (weather permitting). Access to the pool will be limited to Troy residents only. Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

The City of Troy is partnering with the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Capital Area (BGCCA) to operate the facility for the 2021 season. BGCCA will provide lifeguards and offer swimming lessons and free lunch programs. The free lunch program will be available Monday through Friday, from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m., for children ages 17 and under.

Splash Pads

City-operated splash pads and fountains are open daily from sunrise to sunset, with the exception of Riverfront Park which will operate from 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m., and the South Troy Pool splash pad which will be available during operating hours. Admission is free at all City-operated splash pads.

Splash pads are available at the following locations:

  • Corliss Park, 1100 8th Avenue
  • Frear Park, adjacent to Frear Park Ice Rink
  • Knickerbacker Park, 7th and 104th Street
  • Prospect Park, 65 Prospect Park Road
  • Riverfront Park, River Street/Front Street
  • South Troy Swimming Pool, S Troy Pool Lane
  • 7th Avenue Park, Corner of Ingalls and 7th Avenue

Health Precautions

Per CDC guidance, individuals who are not fully vaccinated should continue to use a mask or face covering in public. However, please do not wear a face covering when in the water. Cloth face coverings can cause breathing difficulties when wet.

Splash pad facilities are not actively monitored; guests should use best judgment when visiting public locations. Parents are asked to closely watch their children.

Knickerbacker Swimming Pool

The city is working with the Knickerbacker Park Association on site design concepts for construction of a new swimming facility, with the intention of commencing construction in 2022.

The facility was closed in 2017 after an engineering assessment found significant structural, mechanical, and accessibility issues at the facility.
