Construction of New Traffic & Facility Maintenance Building Begins in North Central Troy

TROY, NY (December 6, 2021) – On Tuesday, November 23rd, Mayor Patrick Madden visited the City’s new Traffic and Facility Maintenance Building, currently under construction in the North Central neighborhood. Mayor Madden was joined by City Engineer Aaron Vera, Project Supervisor Todd Dickinson, and Allison Beagle, PMP, Senior Project Manager with Siemens Industries during the stop.

The city broke ground on the project in July 2021. When complete, the 10,000 sq. ft. structure will house two Public Works departments, and features three 12’ x 12’ garage bay doors, indoor storage for vehicles, equipment, and office space available for staff in the building’s rear. The new garage is replacing a decades-old building that was demolished in May 2021.

The new pre-engineered steel building will utilize LED lighting, modern HVAC systems, and other energy-efficient upgrades. The City of Troy has partnered with Siemens Industries to install energy-efficient LED lighting in the facility.

Mayor Madden said, “We continue to responsibly invest taxpayer dollars into key public-facing departments to improve operations and ensure the reliability of vital City services. Replacement of the long-vacant traffic building with a modern, more energy efficient facility will help meet the needs of today’s Public Works department, and is the first phase of planned construction to replace existing Public Works facilities.”

Demolition of the current Facility Maintenance building and salt shed—which houses the City’s supply of road salt—is expected to begin next year following completion of the new Traffic and Facility Maintenance Building. A new salt shed and fueling island will be constructed in 2022.
