The Rensselaer County Men’s Golf Tournament is an annual tournament held around Labor Day each fall. It started in the 1940s and continues to draw many participants each year. More recently added was the Mayor’s Cup which is held in late August.
Along with the public golf course, Frear Park also boasts a hockey rink which is used by Troy Albany Youth Hockey Association (TAYHA) and also offers public skating. The rink opened in 1974 and was the first enclosed ice rink in the area. In 1979, improvements were made by adding a lobby and extra locker rooms amongst other things. Players ranging from age 6-18 and of all skill levels are able to compete through TAYHA and Frear Park.

Friends of Prospect Park
Friends of Prospect Park in Troy, New York, is a nonprofit group dedicated to the promotion of the park as a place where the public can find refreshment for body and spirit.
Prospect Park is a unique gem in the middle of the City. It provides spectacular, 20-mile, panoramic vistas to the south, west, and north. Rare species of trees, like the Catalpa, European Beech, Hawthorne, and Magnolia grace its grassy expanses; and its history goes all the way back to Uncle Sam.
Since 1998 the Friends have worked to improve the park, and every year we have achieved something new: There is a great children’s playground area with swings and slides galore; a new sign at the front entrance; tennis courts are abuzz with activity; a fountain provides refreshment in summertime; musical family events thrill children in the summer; a summer soiree sweeps guests off their feet; bathrooms at the comfort station and under the swimming pool have been renovated; and fall and spring cleanings and hundreds of new bulb plantings ensure the park stays beautiful.
