Household Hazardous Waste Collection

Household Hazardous Waste, or HHW is a product or item in your home which can be dangerous, toxic, or otherwise unsafe. These items are typically labeled as flammable, corrosive (damages metals and skin), or toxic.

If you have leftover products, such as paint, pesticides, and aerosol cans containing toxic materials, contact us to find out if you can bring them to our HHW Days. To participate, please register in advance and our licensed vendor will safely handle them for you. This service is free for Troy residents!

HHW Disposal Event

The City of Troy is partnering with the Towns of East Greenbush and Bethlehem on the first-ever inter-municipal Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) disposal program for 2021. These events, scheduled April, June, August and October, will provide residents of the three municipalities the opportunity to safely dispose of hazardous materials not accepted through normal garbage collection service.

The disposal events are a free service available to residents of these three municipalities only. Events are listed below by host municipality. Each event will allow for a limited number of participants to register from all three municipalities. All events are open to residents of all three municipalities, and will be held from 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM on the following dates and locations:

  • Bethlehem: April 17th; Town Highway Garage, 74 Elm Avenue East, Selkirk, NY 12158.
  • East Greenbush: August 28th; East Greenbush Transfer Station 246 Ridge Road, Rensselaer, NY 12144
  • Troy: June 26th [REGISTER], and October 30th; Troy Resource Management Facility (formerly Alamo facility), at the corner of East Industrial Parkway and Main Street, Troy, NY, 12180.
