TROY, NY – On Thursday, August 23, Mayor Patrick Madden and City economic development officials visited Ekologic in the Collar City’s downtown business district. Mayor Madden and Planning Commissioner Steven Strichman toured Ekologic’s commercial production & retail space, located at 1 Fulton Street, with owner & designer Kathleen Tesnakis.

Ekologic specializes in the design and manufacture of unique clothing and accessories – including dresses, shirts, hats, gloves and other garments – through the reuse of locally-harvested post-consumer cashmere garments. The company utilizes a zero waste product development process which aims to entirely reuse all parts of textile materials processed through their studio. Relocating to Troy in 2003, Kathleen and husband Charles established their first location in the Marvin Neitzel building before relocating to the historic Frear Building on Fulton Street.

Thursday’s visit served to promote the City’s recently-launched textile recycling pilot program. Additionally, the stop was part of the administration’s ongoing efforts to support local small businesses and entrepreneurs, highlight their importance to neighborhoods across Troy, and connect them to the City’s Office of Planning and Economic Development.
