TROY, NY – On Tuesday, June 19, Mayor Patrick Madden welcomed congregation leaders from the First United Presbyterian Church and representatives of CEO’s YouthBuild Program to City Hall to debut a newly-reconstructed podium which was recently donated to the City. Mayor Madden was joined by Reverend Gusti Newquist, church administrative officials Don and Peggy Drew, CEO YouthBuild program manager Angela Balogun, CEO YouthBuild academic director Jim Gardner, CEO program operations director Erin Bradley, and City & County Historian Kathy Sheehan to officially unveil the new fixture during a ceremony at City Hall.
Originally gifted to the church in 1901 by Robert Cluett Circle King’s Daughters, the congregation approached the administration in 2017 to donate the podium to the City. The project quickly developed into a collaborative effort with CEO’s YouthBuild program – a local workforce development program which provides vocational training to young people in the community – who removed, redesigned and replaced the upper portion of the dais. The newly-restored piece also features a new mahogany City seal carved by South Troy resident, carpenter & woodworker Kevin Kennedy.
