TROY, NY – On Friday, April 27, Mayor Madden and members of Troy’s Urban Forestry Advisory Board celebrated Arbor Day with a tree planting on Federal Street. The tree, a Turkish Filbert, was donated by Island Park Nursery for the event. The planting ceremony highlighted the City’s efforts to deal with the Emerald Ash Borer, an invasive wood-boring Asian beetle that feeds on Ash trees, and a city-wide tree planting program scheduled for this fall. Both initiatives are funded through the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation’s (NYSDEC) Urban and Community Forestry & Invasive Species Rapid Response and Control grant programs.
