Statement from Mayor on Planned Appointment of Steven Figueroa to Vacant District 2 Council Seat

TROY, NY (July 6, 2022) – Mayor Patrick Madden has issued the following statement regarding the planned appointment of Steven Figueroa to the vacant District 2 Council seat during the upcoming meeting of the City Council, scheduled for Thursday, July 7th:

“Given his years of community involvement and experience, we have always felt Steve Figueroa was the best candidate to fill the vacant District 2 Council seat and represent the residents of North Central. He brings a passion for public service and improving the lives of young people in our community.

“He will be a strong addition to the City Council and a tireless advocate for District 2, and I look forward to working with him.”

The District 2 Council seat was vacated on June 9th, 2022 following the resignation of former Councilmember Kim Ashe-McPherson. Following the resignation, Mayor Madden recommended that Steven Figueroa be appointed to fill the vacancy. On Wednesday, July 6th, the administration was notified by the Council Democratic Caucus that the Council Republican caucus has agreed to support Steven Figueroa.
