VIDEO: Bike, Pedestrian Trail Proposed for Congress Street Bridge between Troy, Watervliet
TROY, NY (July 12, 2021) – Last Thursday, U.S Congressman Paul Tonko met with officials from Troy and Watervliet, including Mayor Madden and Mayor Patricelli, to discuss the Route 2 Multi-Modal Connectivity Project. The $5.7M infrastructure project would create a continuous bicycle and pedestrian route across the Congress Street Bridge to connect Troy and Watervliet.
As part of the project, both high-speed ramps in Troy will be removed and replaced with a four-way intersection, reconnecting Downtown with South Troy neighborhoods and connecting the new South Troy Industrial Road to Route 2.
Congressman Tonko has been working to secure federal funding for this and several other Capital Region infrastructure projects. The Troy-Watervliet project was included in the INVEST in America Act, a major infrastructure bill approved by the house and awaiting Senate review.
An additional $4.035M in federal funding was previously allocated for Congress and Ferry Streets between the Congress Street Bridge and 11th Street. These two projects will be combined for comprehensive renovation, of both streets, including repaving and sidewalk repair, curb extensions and bike lanes, improving amenities that support Troy’s downtown businesses and residents.
