A winter storm warning is now in effect for the Capital Region, including Troy, New York, from 6:00pm, Thursday, November 15, to 1:00pm, Friday, November 16. According to the National Weather Service, heavy snowfall is expected Thursday evening, with mixed precipitation overnight. 5 to 10 inches of snow is expected with ice accumulations. Friday morning commute may be hazardous. Additional snowfall is expected during rush hour. Travel may be difficult. Motorists should use caution, reduce speeds, and allow for extra time. For more information on local weather conditions, please visit the National Weather Service website at www.weather.gov/aly/ Mayor Madden said, “Cooperation from residents will ensure Public Works & Public Utilities crews can quickly and efficiently clear our roads of snow and ice during the storm. We ask that residents give snow plows room to operate and exercise caution to ensure the safety of everyone on the road.” City crews have been mobilized to clear snow and address icy conditions on local roadways. Residents are asked to watch for plow vehicles operating in their neighborhood. Residents are reminded to remove snow and ice from sidewalks and ramps near their home or business. Help keep our community accessible for individuals with disabilities, those with small children, and the elderly. Sidewalks adjacent to properties must be cleared of snow by 10:00am the day following the end of a snowstorm. Do not shovel snow into city streets – this can create a hazard and reduces effectiveness of snow cleanup by City crews. Municipal garbage and recycling collection will occur as scheduled for Friday, November 16, 2018.
