Mayor Mantello Announces Troy Police Department Leadership Promotions

(TROY, NY) – Mayor Carmella R. Mantello today announced two key leadership promotions within the Troy Police Department following the retirement of Deputy Chief Chris Kehn, who concluded a distinguished 27-year career with the department yesterday.

Assistant Chief Steven Barker has been promoted to Deputy Chief, and Captain Adam Mason has been appointed to Assistant Chief. Both bring decades of experience, dedication, and leadership to their new roles as the department continues its commitment to public safety and community service.

“Deputy Chief Kehn’s retirement leaves big shoes to fill, but I have full confidence that both Deputy Chief Barker and Assistant Chief Mason are exceptionally qualified and ready to step into these leadership positions,” said Mayor Carmella Mantello. “They have earned the respect of their peers, our residents, and this administration, and I look forward to continuing our strong partnership in ensuring the safety and well-being of Troy’s neighborhoods.”

Deputy Chief Steven Barker, a veteran of the department, having been hired in 2009, has served in numerous roles such as a patrol officer, evidence technician, detective segreant, Captain, and most recently as Assistant Chief overseeing operations such as uniformed patrol division, department systems, and grants. “I am deeply honored by this promotion and grateful for the opportunity to serve in this new capacity,” Barker said. “I look forward to continuing to support the men and women of the Troy Police Department and working closely with the community we proudly serve.”

Assistant Chief Adam Mason, who has been with the department since 1997 has previously served as a Patrolman, Sergeant, Patrol Sergeant, and Detective Captain echoed that sentiment. “It’s a privilege to take on this new role and continue building on the department’s legacy of integrity, professionalism, and service,” Mason said. “I’m excited to support our officers and strengthen our partnerships across the city.” Assistant Chief Mason will oversee the Uniformed Patrol Division.

The promotions of Deputy Chief Barker and Assistant Chief Mason are effective immediately.
