NYS Attorney General’s Office Report Into the Death of Sabeeh Alalkawi
“We have reviewed the New York State Attorney General’s report into the tragic death of Sabeeh Alalkawi, which occurred in 2023. This case has weighed heavily on our community, and we remain deeply saddened by this loss of life. Our thoughts continue to be with Mr. Alalkawi’s family and loved ones.
Accountability is critical in maintaining public trust. The Troy Police Department and the city administration remain committed to ensuring our officers uphold the highest standards of professionalism and conduct. Transparency and trust between law enforcement and the community are fundamental to public safety. The release of this report is an important step in that process. We are committed to moving forward in a manner that prioritizes accountability, public safety, and community trust. We continue to mourn the loss of Mr. Alalkawi and ultimately pray that his family finds peace.
The Troy Police Department continues to work diligently to improve all training and operational policies. We have successfully completed expansion of the fleet camera program to all marked police vehicles, conducted a line-by-line review of vehicle operation policies and procedures for all officers, and have instituted a policy management system to provide checks and balances. We continue to encourage open dialogue and remain dedicated to fostering a safer Troy for all.”
