Mayor Mantello Announces Return of Christmas Tree Recycling Program

(TROY, NY) – Mayor Carmella R. Mantello today announced that the City of Troy Quality-of-Life Action Crews will collect real Christmas trees for recycling during regular curbside pickup beginning on January 6th.

“As part of our continued Quality of Life Action efforts and our commitment to environmentally responsible and fiscally sound practices, we will once again recycle real Christmas trees and offer free drop-off options at the Alamo,” said Troy Mayor Carmella R. Mantello.

Residents are encouraged to place their real Christmas trees at the curb for recycling between Tuesday, January 6th and Monday, January 19th, on their regularly scheduled collection day.

Alternatively, residents may drop off real Christmas trees at the Troy Resource Management Facility (Alamo), located at the corner of Main Street and East Industrial Parkway, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. between January 6th and January 19th.

Recycled Christmas trees are turned into mulch or allowed to naturally decompose, helping keep organic material out of landfills and contributing to healthier soil throughout Troy.

Please note: Only real Christmas trees will be accepted. Residents looking to dispose of artificial trees should contact the Department of Public Works dispatcher at (518) 270-4579.

To ensure proper recycling, residents are asked to follow these guidelines:

  1. Remove all ornaments, lights, decorations, and tree stands.
  2. Place the tree at the curb next to recycling and garbage on your normal collection day.
  3. Troy Quality-of-Life Crews will collect the tree.

Mayor Mantello added, “This Christmas tree recycling program is a simple and impactful way for residents to help protect our environment and enhance the quality of life in our city.”
