TROY, NY (July 10) – Mayor Carmella Mantello has introduced legislation to replace the dysfunctional Planning Commission with a new Planning Board.
"The improvement and economic growth of the City of Troy is something I take very seriously," said Mayor Mantello. "Unfortunately, the Planning Commission has inexplicably delayed projects of all kinds, including essential workforce and affordable housing, hindering our ability to grow as a municipality. The commission should operate within the bounds of its duty, personal preferences have no role in decision making. Each delay costs taxpayers money and makes Troy a less desirable place for private sector investment. We want to be fiscally responsible and move these projects forward for working professionals and those less fortunate, which is why we are opting for a Planning Board."
Two pieces of legislation will be introduced at Thursday’s council meeting. One will be acted on and the other will go through a public hearing before the council votes on it later this month.
