Mayor Mantello Announces Tentative Agreement with Police Command Officer’s Association of Troy

Troy, NY (Jan 24) – Today, Mayor Mantello announced the City of Troy, and the Police Command Officer’s Association of Troy (COATS) have negotiated and agreed upon a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on a 4-year contract that will increase the current pay of COATS members by 3 percent, annually. Additionally, retroactive pay of 3% in 2023 and 4% in 2024, will be dispersed. The previous agreement had expired at the end of 2022.

Mayor Carmella R. Mantello said “This new tentative agreement demonstrates the City of Troy’s commitment to supporting those who serve as command officers, and their families. Every day, we are working toward making Troy safer and cleaner and that is not possible without a strong and supported workforce.”

The new MOA builds on Mayor Mantello’s consistent efforts to make Troy safer and cleaner by prioritizing public safety and continuing to invest in those who keep us all safe, as well as their families. Across New York State it has been increasingly difficult for law enforcement agencies to retain staff. Mayor Mantello’s focus is to ensure that these negotiations create a reality where you can raise a family, and build a long-lasting career with institutional knowledge, in the City of Troy.

“The partnership between the City of Troy and COATs reflects mutual respect and a shared goal of ensuring the safety and well-being of our community,” said Adam Mason, President of the Police Command Officer’s Association of Troy. “This tentative agreement supports our officers and their families while strengthening our ability to serve the residents of Troy, effectively.”

This latest tentative agreement precedes a successful contract with the Troy Police Benevolent Association in May of 2024. Active negotiations with the Troy Unified Firefighters Association Local 86 (UFA) and Civil Service Employees Association (CSEA), are ongoing. The City Council will be acting on the tentative agreement at the February 20th finance meeting.
