TROY, N.Y. – Prompted by tenant complaints, an inspection this morning by independent engineers at the Harbour Point Gardens apartments determined that a number of brick facades at the complex are separating from the buildings, creating an imminent risk to the residents and anyone near the structures. Based on the engineers' advice and recommendations, Troy's Code Department took immediate action to evacuate families from these unsafe structures. Troy Mayor Wm. Patrick Madden declared a state of emergency to ensure the city can mobilize the needed resources to address this issue and provide assistance to displaced residents.
Per 182 Delaware, LLC, owners of Harbour Point Gardens, all tenants that require housing are being supplied short-term housing at the Red Roof Hotel, with arrangements made at a secondary hotel for reserve rooms in case of need. Other tenants are staying with local family and friends.
The decision to evacuate families was not made lightly, and has a tremendous impact on those residing at Harbour Point Gardens. A total of 58 units at the complex have been ordered evacuated. The Madden Administration continues to work with 182 Delaware, LLC and state and federal partners to see if any additional assistance can be provided, and are asking any entities in the region with capacity to take the residents to contact Troy City Hall at (518) 276-7156.
